Hawkeye by Matt Fraction

Matt Fraction and David Aja continue their critically acclaimed series from 2012 in this New volume of Hawkeye. Matt Fraction showcases his inventive and simplistic writing that allows new readers to pick up and enjoy this book regardless of the previous continuity. David Aja makes his minimalistic art stand out and enhance the story. Each issue collected in the volume has a unique episode system where the reader gets to float through the story in increments that are days. The story begins out from the Christmas eve where Clint Barton aka Hawkeye helps his friend Grills move out from his fathers place. This is also the time when hurricane Sandy stroke the US. The hurricane is featured in the story causing troubles for Clint and Kate Bishop aka Hawkgirl. Besides struggling with the hurricane and helping out his friend Grills, Clint has issues concerning his DVR and asks Tony Starks assistance who then insists Clint to take a brief break from his ongoing vigilante missions that he tasks himself with when he is not being an avenger. Alongside his problems with getting his life together, Clint also comes across the mysterious girl named Cherry he met in the previous issues which then causes him to cross the Russian tracksuit mafia, for real this time. After wronging the Russians, the mafia combine forces with other underworld organizations including Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. The combined organizations decide to kill Clint Barton and start planning while a new villain named the Clown Killer makes an appearance. The final chapter of the volume is a very interesting creation being from the point of view of pizza dog which is a creative method that engages the readers even more in this already compelling story.

David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell

Has anybody ever told you that you would not be able to achieve something because it had a small chance of success, and you went ahead and achieved it? No? Yes? Whatever the answer is, it’s a good answer. Malcolm Gladwell talks about how the least likely outcome is achieved. Gladwell uses various stories to show how smallest outcome are the best outcomes, and why the smallest outcomes are more likely to succeed than you think. Staring with the greatest underdog story ever known, David and Goliath. The author of other bestselling books such as Blink, What the Dog Saw, and The Tipping Point.

Review:
This book is nonfiction and for those that like reading about other people’s real-life stories. The book provides real life accounts of a person’s or group’s actions that would have been considered insane and would be very unlikely to succeed. Gladwell talks about how seemingly “bad” things can be good, and how seemingly “good” things can be bad. What are better off being, a big fish in a little pond or a little fish in a big pond? What is better, arresting people, or treating them nicely? How do you battle giants? How does a revolution succeed? The answers will be yours when you read this book. Are you willing to find out how David beats Goliath?

Full Metal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa

Summary:
After a misfire while dabbling in the arts of alchemy, brothers Alphonse and Elric lose something of major importance to them. The two later become slaves to the military and are chosen to carry out their work for them. Aside from working for the government, the two try to help people and show people the falseness that they have known for so long. This fast paced and exhilarating manga is not adventure anybody should miss out on! This manga was originally written and published in 2001 and became widely popular worldwide (even earning its own show). In 2008, it sold 20 million copies alone in Japan. This book is considered a classic in the world of manga. This manga ranks high in popularity closing in on Naruto and DragonBall.

Review:
Full metal Alchemist is a fast-paced manga (Japanese comic) that mixes sci-fi with fantasy and action. This manga has been made to excite with its eccentric, comic, and just ridiculously funny characters. This manga ranks high in popularity closing in on Naruto and DragonBall. The book is a short for those easily entertained and looking for a quick read. Be aware that it does not have color because traditionally manga don’t. This book is for those that like fast paced stories with a lot of action. Every chapter or two represents a different mission that Alphonse and Edward go on. This book is also for people that like fantasy based stories with magic and alchemy in them. This book is not for those that do not like comics (but it’s still good to give things a shot). This book is recommended for anyone to read, but is a must read for comic book, fantasy, and action lovers.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is a very touching and dramatic novel portraying the idea of friendship and loyalty. The story takes place in Kabul, Afghanistan where Amir and Hasan, two childhood best friends live and play together. Hasan's father works as Amir's father's servant and Amir's father (Baba as Amir calls him) likes Hasan very much and treats him as if he is his own son like Amir.

In the apparent time, there is an ongoing ethnic conflict in Afghanistan, namely the Pashtun-Hazara conflict. Amir and Baba are Pashtuns and Hasan and his father are Hazaras. Both Amir and Hasan fly kites as their hobbies and one day after winning a local kite tournament, the players of the opposing team corner Amir and Hasan and insult them. Later, when Hasan is looking for Amir's kite, the players of the opposing team and their leader Assef attack Hasan in an alley. Amir is there to witness the event however he is scared to help his friend. he chooses to hide behind the wall while Assef seemingly rapes Hasan.

From that point on the story forwards into Amir's adulthood and features Amir redeeming himself by traveling back to Kabul to save deceased Hasan's son from Assef and the Taliban.

Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama

Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga by written by Hajime Isayama. The book takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where giant humanoid beings known as titans inhabit most of the world and humans are forced to live in cities surrounded by massive walls. The book is full of darkness, horror, and gore with Titans devouring people and destroying towns. But along with this dark fantasy comes a very good plot that develops well, and characters that have interesting backgrounds but at any moment can be killed off. I do not recommend this book for people with the faint heart. but if you are fan of japanese manga and action packed dark fantasy full of twists and climaxes with a excellent plot, then without of doubt this is a story for you.
